After ten years of struggle, I FINALLY ate my last piece of meat. My next struggle: Becoming Vegan. This blog will feature the ups and down on the long and booby-trapped road to a more compassionate way of eating. Fuck ups WILL be included.

National Ice Cream Day!

Did you know, in 1984 July was named National Ice Cream Month? And - the third Sunday of July is International Ice Cream DAY!!! That's TOMORROW FOLKS!!!
Sure it was an American thing, implemented by Ronald Reagan (asshole) - but - not a bad idea...
Unless of course, you've given up dairy or are lactose intolerant.
I've ALWAYS been an ice-cream-a-holic.
I love icecream in a cup, on a cone, in a sunday, drenched with caramel sauce - the more chocolately the better!!
Second to that - I LOVE me a good ole fashioned ice cream sandwich! The cheap kind...with the two soft chocolatey waifers and the creamy vanilla ice cream in the middle.
You know the kind...
Anwyay I was feeling MIGHTY left out - especially seeing that it's Ice Cream month - and there were a few frozen Rolo bars in the freezer that were starting to look PRETTY FUCKIN' GOOD, despite the fact that there was pussy cow milk in them.
"Fuck it," I kept thinking. "Ice Cream GOOOOOD".
Then, I discovered two AMAZING products that are TOO good to be true.
here's a short review of each:
Purely Decadent Soy Delicious Chocolate Brownie Almond.
Now - just in recent weeks - I've come to realize lots of people have a soy-phobia.
Personally, before this vegan gig - I never gave soy much thought either way.
I never bought it - but was NEVER grossed out by it either.
I fell in love with soy milk the SECOND I tasted it and even if I dropped the vegan lifestyle - I don't think I would go back to cow milk because I prefer soy so much more now.
Anyway - this ice"cream" product...FUCKING ROCKS. Seriously. Whether you're craving for a chocolate fix or an ice cream fix - THIS WILL DO IT. It is so rich, so BLOODY delicious - I can't even gush enough.
The real test though - came when Life Partner tried it. I was nervous. Although I like the taste of soy - it DOES have its own taste and not everyone has the same taste buds...
He tried it...HE LIKED IT!!!!!!!!!! In fact - he said it was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! And Life Partner is a SNACK conosieur...he closes his eyes when he eats - and I can't think of anyone else who has a BIGGER appreciation for tastey food than him..except....well...about 30 of my other friends.
But - to get the gold star from Life Partner CONFIRMED my suspicions: Purely Decadent Soy Delicious Chocolate Brownie non-dairy ice cream is a 100% FLAWLESS substitute for ice cream...you probably won't even KNOW the difference. Seriously.
So much healthier, so much richer - and not a single cow was milked in the making.

Secondly....my favorite:
Ice Cream Sandwiches WITHOUT ANY DAIRY!!!
Too good to be true? I thought so right away.
The true test came around 11pm last night. I had the munchies and when i get the munchies - my NUMBER ONE late night snack, especially on a humid and rainy late Friday night...is an ice cream sandwich.
I grabbed a Soy Delicious Li'l Buddy and cracked her open.
Perfect.
EXACT same texture, size, flavour - it hit the SAME SPOT a dairy ice cream sandwich would have hit.
NOTE - there was a SLIGHT soy after-taste - but EASILY over-looked...because I like the taste of soy.
In short - Li'l Buddies are FUCKING DELICIOUS and you have NO CLUE how relieved I am to find BOTH of these products, because Ice cream was a real tough treat to give up and if anything was going to throw me off the wagon - it would be that.
But - not any more.

Even if you're not vegan - I suggest you go out and try either or both of these products, just for the fuck of it. You might be TOTALLY surprised, seriously.
I was.

Happy I-SCREAM day...

Dan
